First Punch

First Punch refers to the first recorded attendance entry made by an employee when they begin their workday. It is typically the earliest valid punch recorded through an attendance device, biometric system, mobile application, web-based attendance system, or other configured attendance method.

In an HRMS, the First Punch is used to determine an employee's initial attendance time for the day. The system can compare the first punch with the employee's assigned shift, scheduled start time, grace period, and attendance rules to help identify on-time arrival, late arrival, or attendance exceptions.

First Punch information can be combined with the last punch, shift details, working hours, overtime, breaks, and attendance status to calculate or support daily attendance records. Accurate first-punch data helps HR teams monitor punctuality, prepare attendance reports, and provide reliable inputs for payroll processing.

For CLMS and contract workforce management, First Punch can help track the start of work for contract or outsourced personnel. It can support workforce attendance, shift monitoring, payable-hour calculations, muster records, and operational reporting according to configured rules and deployment requirements.
