Default Shift

Default Shift is a predefined work shift automatically assigned to an employee, department, location, or workforce group when no specific shift has been manually assigned. It establishes the standard working schedule that the system uses for attendance, working hours, and shift-related calculations.

In an HRMS, a Default Shift may define the employee's regular start time, end time, break duration, working hours, grace period, weekly-off rules, and applicable attendance settings. When an employee has a default shift, the system can use it as the baseline for processing daily attendance and identifying late arrivals, early departures, short hours, or overtime according to configured policies.

Default Shift management helps organizations standardize work schedules, reduce manual scheduling, improve attendance accuracy, and simplify time-office and payroll processing.
